Contests and Games
Games are fun and practice should be fun also. Making a drill competitive will improve any practice. When your team looks a little sluggish, throw in a game to get them charged up.

Lightning: Line up players at one basket at the free throw line. Use three or four balls. Player shoots a free throw area shot. If they make it they to to the end of the line. If they miss, they have go get their own rebound and make a shot before the next person in line makes theirs. If the person does not make it they are out. Keep going until one left, use two balls at the end. Very fast and fun game, can use more than one basket and the players really like it. Top
Around the World: A shooting drill where a player must make a shot form different spots around the court. After they make one they move to the next spot and so on. The first one to go around the world wins. Use as many baskets as you have. Variations: Have each player make two before they can move; follow up the made with a made free throw or layup. Top
Mikan: A basic shooting drill that you time. A player is under the basket with a ball. They shoot a baby hook shot with their right hand, rebound, shoot form the left with the left hand. Use good form. Have the players keep track of made shots in a time limit. Variations: Players must make from the side before switching, use a reverse shot. Top
Speed Shooting: Make as many shots from one spot on the floor in a time limit. Players have a rebounder and use more than one ball. Use as many baskets as you have. Variations: Players rebound own shot, move to different spot for each shot. Top
Hot Shot: Put a point value to spots on the floor. Player is timed and tries to get as many points as they can, counting a make for the point value. Use as many baskets as you have. Variations: Have to shoot at each spot, have to make at each spot before moving, limit number made from each spot. Top
21 in Pairs: Two groups of two battle to 21. Just like regular 21, a free throw is two points and a made other shot is one point. Have to make a free throw before you can get lay-ups. Players take turns. The game goes pretty fast and works on passing skills too. Variations: Three groups, miss keep shooting. Top
Swish: Shoot free throws. A clean made one (swish) is 2 points, made shot 1 point, miss - 1 and airball - 2. First one to 8 wins. Best with just tow or three players. Variations: Shoot from different spots on the floor, go to a higher end value. Top
Half Court Shot: This can be done for fun. Put a dollar on the floor and the first player to make a shot from half court wins! You can find out who has the strength to shoot from half court and some day you might need a buzzer beater to win. Top
