This play, Left Y Drag, is designed for the "Y" receiver to catch a short over the middle pass. The receiver waits for the other receivers to run deep down field opening up the middle. The y receiver then finds the open area and the quarterback throws him the ball. Notice how the tight end has cleared the middle.
