This play, Spread Four, has four wide receivers on the field. There are two receivers on each side of the field. Each runs a different pattern. One may go long, one medium, one may run a curl and one over the middle on a crossing route.It makes it hard for the defense to cover four wide receivers. The defense must add a nickel or dime back. One of the four receivers is open and the quarterback has to see which one and get him the ball.
