Here is an example of one way a punt gets returned. The punt
returner tries to follow his blockers up the field. He can create
a seam in the defense by changing direction or getting good
blocks. Many times the returner has to call for a fair catch.
Punt returner # 6 finds an opening to get up field. He first
starts right then goes left. This takes all the defenders one way
and out of the play. White blockers peel back and block the blue
players to create a seam. Then #6 cuts back across the field and
goes all the way for a touchdown! Most returns are set up to go
one direction. When the returner changes direction it can cause a
big opening on the field.
Blockers cannot clip or block low during a return.
