Halfback Screen

This play, Halfback Screen, is designed for the Halfback or running back to catch a screen pass. A screen pass is when the offensive line allows the defensive line to pressure the quarterback and draw the linemen away from the runningback. Three offensive linemen then make a "screen" for the runningback on a side of the field. The runningback catches the pass and has the three blockers to help him move down the field.

Tampa Bay Screen

On this play, the QB #12 will pass to RB #28. Note how many offensive linemen get over to the left to help block and form the screen. The two guards #'s 60 and 64 and the center # 61 all go out to block. They allow for the defense to move to the quarterback and this will open up the play for #28 to catch the pass and make a big gain. The wide receiver #88 will run his man deep as does #85. This takes their defenders deep down the field and they cannot help out on the play. The tight end # 86 will block the cornerback.

This is a good play to run against an aggressive defense or against a team that blitzes on many plays.
