This play, Spread Draw, is designed for the running back run the ball up the middle of the field. A draw play gets the defense up the field and opens up the middle for the back to run. All the receivers run deep pass patterns to draw the defense deep down field. The result of all this is a big open area for the runner.
Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions runs this play the best.
this play will go for a touchdown!
#47 the running back will get the deep handoff from the
quarterback and run past the blitzing linebackers. # 32 the
fullback, will block one linebacker and the other one will run
right by the runner trying to get to the quarterback. The
offensive linemen all block straight ahead blocking the first
player they see. The runner finds the openings in the defense and
runs for a touchdown. This is a play that all teams run. It works
when the defense is either blitzing on the play or expecting a
pass.
